2014 - A Pivotal Year for Mental Health Care

It is the first day of 2014 and I have been seeing patients in my office for most of it. I did take a break to go out and buy a new music system for the office and I am cranking (as in walls shaking) out some serious 90's music as I, ahem, also crank out this little blog. BTW the pic associated with this blog is my first attempt at a "selfie." If a picture is worth a thousand words then this one speaks volumes about this doctor's frustrations with the current state of our country's mental health system.

Enough Already with the ADHD Increases!

I'll keep this brief because I recently released a blog on ADHD with up-to-date stats, links, etc. However, this article just published in the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry elevates the rate of ADHD to an all-time high, reporting that 1 in 5 high school boys have been diagnosed wtih ADHD.

On Kooks and Quacks

A “kook” is my term for someone who seeks to advance a treatment that has either been disproved or is on the fringe of mainstream medicine.  The kook’s primary motive is to help people, not to scam them.  Remember the story of Chicken Little?
