ADHD rates have reached (another) all time high, so says the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). According to this study just published, 11% of all children in America have been diagnosed with ADHD. Perhaps even more interesting, or alarming depending on how one views the statistic, is that 1 in 5 high school boys have been diagnosed with ADHD. When I was in medical school, I was taught that a total of 1 in 5 people suffered from any form of mental disorder. The article did not mention whether this newly discovered 42% increase in ADHD diagnoses has affected the overall statistics regarding totoal number of Americans afflicted with mental illness, although logic suggests it would increase it.
