In the mental health profession, listening to a person’s story is essential in determining a proper diagnosis. Unfortunately for many, our broken system of mental health care has largely stopped listening.
Consequently, patients are consistently being misdiagnosed, and as a result, given ineffective treatments. As a forensic psychiatrist, I’m determined to change this.
As an adult, child, and adolescent psychiatrist I evaluate and treat patients of all ages with serious (and sometimes not so serious) mental health problems on a daily basis. Many of these patients have previously suffered serious consequences following a misdiagnosis.
I am a true diagnostician, and my rigorous, wholistic approach to arriving at the correct diagnosis is the foundation of the 360 approach.
Thoroughly review previous medical and psychiatric records
Perform a thorough interview with the patient and family members
Gather collateral information from other sources such as teachers, friends or acquaintances
What if I told you that the third leading cause of serious medical outcome or death isn’t even considered a disease by the CDC. It’s medical error.
